Dunn County HealthWatch

HealthWatch Wisconsin Local Coalition Mini-Grant Awarded!
HealthWatch Wisconsin is pleased to announce the award of a coalition development mini-grant in Dunn County to a partnership of stakeholders led by the Red Cedar Medical Center - Mayo Health System and the Dunn County Public Health Department. Our newest HealthWatch local coalition will provide leadership, direction, and support for people as well as service providers in Dunn County seeking to access care and coverage. This award will assist Dunn County in the start-up of their local HealthWatch coalition. Their proposal displayed a readily accessible and sustainable infrastructure of individuals and organizations committed to access to care and coverage issues in their communities. Congratulations and welcome to the HWW family to Dunn County!

Goals & Objectives: Establishing a HealthWatch Wisconsin coalition in the greater Dunn County region.

Activities to achieve project goal: The already established discovery team will establish a HealthWatch Wisconsin coalition through the following process:

1. Identify a local need and desire for a health-focused community collaboration – COMPLETE
2. Attend the HealthWatch Wisconsin’s annual conference to learn more about the organization and establishing a local coalition – COMPLETE
3. Establish some start-up funding for initiating the coalition, preparing materials, meeting costs, mailings and an initial kick-off event.
4. Establish a steering committee of key players to help establish a mission, goals, objectives and guidelines, as well as a prospective list of members to invite to the coalition.
5. Plan, promote and implement a kick-off event

Geographic Area: The geographic area that will be served by the Greater Dunn County HealthWatch Wisconsin Coalition will be the greater Dunn County Area (Red Cedar Medical Center service area). This includes regions to the north, south and west of Dunn County. To the east of Dunn County is covered by both the HealthWatch coalitions of Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls.

Populations Targeted: The populations that will benefit most from a HealthWatch Coalition in Dunn County include low income, uninsured and underinsured residents of the greater Menomonie area.

Opportunities for Reaching Target Populations: The developing Dunn County coalition has already identified many potential avenues for reaching the target populations. The most recognizable opportunity involves the coalition members and participants. More specifically opportunities would include, but not be confined to, Red Cedar Medical Center, Free Clinic of Greater Dunn County, Dunn County Public Health Dept., Dunn County Hmong Association, area school districts, and local agricultural groups that employ a majority of the influx of migrant workers coming to our region.

Expected Outcomes:

2. Clearly defined mission, objectives and plan for the coalition
3. A large cross-section of health related and concerned community partners actively involved in the coalition
4. A more educated, efficient and cohesive health care system regionally
5. Fewer individuals and families not receiving adequate healthcare
6. A unified voice to advocate health concerns and issues in larger arenas.
