Polk County Healthwatch |
|
Group Description |
Polk County HealthWatch was formed in January of 2003 as a joint effort of ABC for Health, Inc.
and the Polk County Health Department. The Otto Bremer Foundation of St. Paul has provided
funding to staff the organization and day-to-day operations of this project. Access to
dental care was selected as the group's first priority, and a series of dental projects have
now been undertaken, including an Early Childhood Caries Prevention Project for Polk County's WIC children.
Polk HealthWatch is also developing a Mental Health Services Roadmap for publication, gathering
resources for potential development of a radiation therapy center in the county. The group is
considering possibilities for submitting an application for a federally supported community health center.
In September 2003, the group will begin a Community Health Needs Assessment in conjunction with the Health Department.
Representatives at meetings typically include staff from all three local medical centers, county
health and human services, Veterans Office, St. Croix Tribe, WIC, Head Start, CESA 11, the county
mental health services unit, and UW Extension.
Meetings are held at 10:45 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Polk County Health Department's
new offices in the Government Building Annex in Balsam Lake. Meetings end with a luncheon at noon.
